On Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Primary Health Network (PHN) broke ground for its new 33,000 square foot Clarion practice site. Community board members, government representatives, medical providers and contractors ceremoniously dug their shovels into the ground at Trinity Point Development Center off immediately route I-80 at Exit 62. Construction will commence immediately and the new site will open tentatively Fall 2012. Jack Laeng, CEO of PHN, stated “in keeping with our mission, PHN continues to grow and improve upon the facilities and services we provide to the people in the areas we serve.” General contractor for the project is Mark Hudson Construction, Inc, Hermitage, PA.PHN Clarion will house medical, dental, behavioral health counseling, pharmacy and other social service agencies. With the opening of this healthcare facility, 50 to 70 job opportunities will consequently be created. Since PHN’s inception in 1984, the focus of this non-profit organization has been on working with communities to implement a new model of healthcare; the community health center. Beginning as Shenango Valley Primary Health Care Center in Farrell, PA, PHN has grown to be the largest community health center in Pennsylvania, with 14 sites in Mercer County and 19 additional locations throughout northwestern PA and northeastern Ohio. During 2010 PHN provided care to 83,549 patients and had 290,373 visits at its locations. Employing over 500 full and part-time providers and support staff, PHN has increased access to care in underserved areas and also become a major employer in the community. In keeping with the ever changing healthcare, PHN participates in most managed care plans, accepts most major insurances and offers sliding fee billing to anyone who qualifies, regardless of insurance status.
